Knit ATX

Austin, Texas is a happy place for me. I have family there. Some of my favorite food places are there. You don’t know true luxury until you wake up and walk to phenomenal breakfast tacos.

And even though the weather there is usually much milder than back home, Austin has no shortage of stellar local yarn shops. Made many a trek out to Gauge Yarn and Hill Country Weavers, but I heard from a friend (local to me, but a born Texan) that Austin got a new yarn shop: Knit ATX. I had to check it out!

It was a little tricky getting to this yarn shop. My dad was nice enough to drive, but he got a little uneasy when we made some turns through a residential district. We just followed Google’s directions, though, and got there just fine.

The vibes at first glance were immaculate. Lots of yarn, fun fiber tools, and inspiring samples greeted us from the door. Even more local yarn was in their classroom (which had a local stitching group in while we were visiting). Dad was super interested in the custom-built shelves sporting yarn around the shop.

And since I am hard-pressed to leave any yarn store empty-handed…

You know I love the local stuff, and I hit the jackpot! Got some Yarn Matter Suri Lace, all of which has the natural dye stuff used on the label. Have no clue yet what it will be, but I couldn’t pass it up. I also got a rainbow i-cord tool with the hope that I will never have to suffer an i-cord bind-off again (and I understand that me even saying so most assuredly means I will have to do one soon).

I also got my mom a dragon notion tin and some Maleficent-flavored assigned pooling yarn from Barker Wool. I’ve been sitting on some similar yarn, and I think we will make some assigned pooling socks together.

Next time you’re in Austin, highly recommend adding Knit ATX to your local yarn shop crawl!
