Lucky Handmades for St. Patrick’s Day

While three of my parents were of German descent, the fourth was Irish Catholic. St. Patrick’s Day has always been quite the celebration in my home, including trad music, Irish food and drink, and more often than not, something handmade.

I made these for a Spring Break trip almost a decade ago… They were super easy and quick: just crochet moss stitch color blocks and seamed the short ends together. They’ve remained favorite Patty’s Day attire through the years.

A friend’s grandmother was clearing out her fabric stash, and in it was a large amount of this pretty, green cotton. I decided I need some St. Patty’s overalls! The pattern is the Yanta Overalls, which I really enjoyed.

I didn’t knit these socks, but I spun the yarn for them! It was my first ever fractal spin, and I gifted it to my Mom to make some socks for her first trip to the Emerald Isle. She’s gotten a lot of use out of them!

Finally, I made many handknits to wear on my first trip to Ireland, but none so visibly “St. Patrick’s Day” as these shamrock socks. I had been eyeing the Treasure Goddess green for this project for years. I got a super wooly white to go with it, and could not be happier with them. If you knit tight, though, bump up a needle size. The colorwork is not as forgiving to stretch over your heel as most socks are.

A belated Éire go brách to you, and here’s to some more green in the near future.
