You Spin Me Right Round

I need to give a shout-out to the universe today.

Thank you, universe, for bringing me so much amazing spinning content as of late. I don’t know if more people are picking it up because of lockdowns, or because they got spinning stuff for Christmas, or if they’ve always been here and just now discovered the online communities. I don’t much care how we got here, because to see a craft I love, a craft that is such a niche part of an already niche community, warms my heart so much.

And it is truly fantastic content: beautiful fibers and even more beautiful finished yarns, people sharing new techniques, and gorgeous, inspirational Finished Objects out of handspun. They’re the only reason the doomscrolling hasn’t done me in already.

The other thing I often see in these groups is people reaching out for help or advice, which is great. Like I said, it’s niche on niche, so it can be hard if you don’t have someone you can reach out to with questions. I had a great spinning mentor when I started (another giant shout out to Marci), but man, I can only imagine how wide my knowledge would be if I could have crowd-sourced.

With that in mind, (and having said as much in person, but I’ll still put it in writing): if any kind soul out there has any spinning questions they want to run by someone, my messages are always open. If I don’t have the answer, I probably know someone who does! I’ve picked up a bunch of tricks over my decade of spinning (quite a few from my privilege of living in a city with an amazing international spinning show), and I would share any and all of them. I just want to see as many people experience the same joy I get out of this craft as possible.
