Prairie Knits: Studio Retreat

I was on staff again for the Studio Winter Retreat. This year, we retreated to Gardner, KS, and stayed in a brand new Hampton Inn. We had great classes with national teacher and designer Olga Buraya-Kefelian, the retreat market (manned by yours truly), and, of course, a lot of knitting.

Admittedly, I was bummed at first about the location change from last year. I love historic hotels, and I no longer had those amazing downtown views. However, the folks at the Hampton Inn took very good care of us, and the rooms were super nice.

The new location also gave us the opportunity to invite another special guest. Maple Ridge Farm brought in some yarn and roving from their flock of alpacas. I love getting to talk to and support local farmers, so this was a huge plus.

Finally, having Olga come in as the national teacher was inspiring. She has such creative designs that always have me asking “How did she do that?” Getting to see those samples up close, and her students as they got their “ah-ha” moments, was one of the highlights of my weekend. That and time with my fiber friends, of course.

Sarah, Emma, and Christine with their coffee

I didn’t know Sarah, The Sexy Knitter, or Christine, the Treasure Goddess, were coming until I saw their Instagram stories! It’s always such a joy to spend time with them (especially when we sneak away for a coffee).

I don’t know if we’ll be in the same location for next year, so stay tuned!
