Hacer Santa Fe

When my friend Becca and I were weighing our options for summer travel, we had two strong contenders: a short cruise or taking the train to see friends in New Mexico. We chose the latter. Not only was the train cheaper, but we may not always have the option to take a train to see friends!

Our friends live near Albuquerque, so we explored a bit around there, including Santa Fe! My New Mexico friend, Alex, is also a knitter, and they recommended we visit Hacer.

Hacer (meaning to make in Spanish) is actually mostly a fabric store, but you know that’s never stopped me! The shop felt like it was at one point a residence, with the fabric and cutting desk/cash register in the main area and two other rooms, one for the yarn and the other for notions and patterns.

Yarn Room in Hacer

The yarn room was full of natural light, which made it very easy to see the beautiful yarns. They had a couple of local hand-dyed options to chose from (my go-to!), and plenty of natural plant fibers for the warmer climate of the American southwest.

To my own personal delight, on top of the outside door frame was a house sparrow nest, and you could hear the nestlings as you checked out. There must’ve been magic in the shop, because we got desert rain the entire time we were in there (and let up right as we left).

If you need a yarn stop in Santa Fe, I can highly recommend Hacer!
