Toy and Miniature Museum

To celebrate Father’s Day coming up, I wanted to share a recent trip I took with my dad to The National Museum of Toy and Miniatures!

This amazing museum is steps away from my office, and we had an opportunity for Staff Appreciation Week to bring our family for a free visit. Perks of working at a university. It started as personal collections from two very dedicated women, in a renovated historic home. It takes a good chunk of time to see it all.

The toys are very cool, but the miniatures really captured my fiber-arts attention. There was some crochet, weaving, and knitting, but there was a ton of needlepoint at canvas counts that utterly blew my mind (I counted one as high as 34).

Immediately to the right as you enter the miniature wing, they had a feature on a recreation of an existing French rug made of French knots. Can you imagine?! I struggle to use French knots for any filler, let alone a rug at a miniature scale.

I also counted seven miniature spinning wheels! It became a fun game after the first couple. See how many you can spot at your next visit to the museum! (and look for the Woobles in the museum gift shop!)
