Seven Dwarves Top

The new Snow White movie came out, and I liked it.

I took the timely opportunity to update a vintage Disney Store top generously gifted to me by my friend Marci. It never did fit me quite right. It was too long in the torso and sleeves and a little too tight across my stomach. I couldn’t let such a good find go, though, so I did a little altering!

First thing was I chopped a good deal off the bottom and sleeves. Then I cut panels out of some classic seven dwarves fabric (one of the last things I ever bought from JoAnn’s, may she rest in peace) to add to the sides. The shirt already had a seam down both sides, so it wasn’t too bad to cut.

The panels were so big, however, I had to add some fabric back into the circumference of the sleeves. There was plenty from what I already cut off the shirt, so I just added corresponding panels in the knit fabric. To make that less noticeable, and to tie in the panels a little more, I made bias tape from the dwarves fabric (my first time to ever do so alone, so I hope my quilting aunties are proud of me!) to finish the edges of the sleeves. All that was left was a very basic hem around the bottom!

The sleeves are big, but that is a signature part of Snow White’s look. Plus, they’re super 90s, so I’m happy with them. I foresee my nice days wearing my updated shirt!
