12 Days of Th’Red Head

Last year, my Wolf ‘n’ Sheep’s Clothing compatriot, Chrissy, gave me a truly remarkable gift for Christmas: a 12 Days of Th’Red Head calendar.

Each of the 12 days had their own ~15g ball of yarn, either on the Super!Wash base or the OK Boomer base (first time working with that, and I LOVE it), in colors that reminded me of her and Marci. She also threw in little treats, notions, or other things she knew I would love, like the acorn pendant she needle-felted (also like Disney stickers! I felt so seen).

So what to do with these delightful bits of yarn? I went with an accessory because of the amount of yarn I had. I wanted something that would let the individual colors shine while still working cohesively as a group and ended up with the Traveler’s Cowl by Andrea Mowry (Ravelry link).

First off, it was a delight to knit, mostly just straight knits or purls. Chill enough to keep the holiday stress at bay while still keeping your attention. I loved getting to add the new color each day. I knit them as Chrissy gave them to me, labeled 1-12. It just felt more fun that way, and I still feel that way with the finished cowl.

If you ever get the opportunity to have a custom-made yarny advent calendar, I can’t recommend it enough.
