I’m Ken’s buddy. All his clothes fit me.
I was immediately struck by Allan in the summer phenomenon that was Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie.” I know Michael Cera’s performance and the fun awkwardness of the character played a part. I also acknowledge that Allan’s iconic shirt reminded me of a granny stitch, and that’s probably the main reason for the fascination.
Of course once seen, I had to make it. To my utter surprise, no one online had already created a granny stitch collared top design akin to Allan’s. So your girl made one herself.
I picked out all the appropriate colors (some in different weights than others, so glad to know after decades of doing this, I can still make rookie mistakes). I “gauged,” but got better information from starting the top. However, I only had to rip out that one time! I kept the construction simple: mostly seamed rectangles. I finished it off with a single crochet collar and sew-in snaps.

I’m so thrilled with it!! And honestly, it’s something I’d love to wear outside of Halloween. I finished it just in time (literally just. I was sewing in the snaps half an hour before) for my friends’ Mali-BOOO Barbie Party, and had a fantastic time with the other Kens and Barbies.
Happy Halloween to you and yours!
