Never mind that I just wrapped Tour de Fleece and want to finish projects for an upcoming trip to Ireland. When a fiber friend hosts a knit-along, I’m hard-pressed not to join; especially when the knit-along is a chicken.
EmoGirlKnits has been hosting this knit-along for the Emotional Support Chicken (Ravelry link) by The Knitting Tree L.A. I didn’t know what I would do with a stuffed chicken, but it’s too stinking cute to say no!
I will say, the pattern is not perfect. I had to ignore some instruction in favor of reverse-engineering the pictures of the prototype chicken, but the pattern is so fun to knit, and so clever, I’m inclined to recommend it in it’s slightly flawed state. All of the shaping is garter short rows, so no need to pick up any wraps. It holds your attention, but it doesn’t require you to constantly be looking at the pattern either. This was a perfect summer vacation knit.
I’m also thrilled with the yarns I used. The main yarn is a ribbon, nylon situation that my friend Christine (of TreasureGoddess Yarns) gave away at a knitting guild swap-and-shop years ago. This is absolutely what this yarn was meant to be. It’s fun, it’s gives the chicken a wonderful, calming texture, and I already had coordinating yarns that I would have sworn came in a kit for this chicken.

To answer what I do with this chicken, I cuddle it. It’s a perfect hugging size (and the fabric feels so good to run my hands over) that I just hold on to Henrietta during my wind-down television watching. Thanks EmoGirlKnits for hosting this super fun KAL!

Emma: -π cool My mother (RIP) knitted one of these for my brother and I when we were 5 & 6 yr old boys (I think she wanted daughters){which came later} Meanwhile back at my brothers ranch in Minnesota that chicken is sitting on his bookshelf 65 years later βοΈ π ~Willy from Tennessee
