I’m not much of a quilter unless I’m hanging out with my quilting aunties. It requires an amount of equipment and precision that I am usually not in the mood for. However, this did not stop me from visiting the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival with them while they were in town.
This is a big show, on par with most of the national yarncraft shows I have attended. Vendors were selling everything from knickknacks to long arm sewing machines, even finished quilts.
It wasn’t all exclusively quilting supplies, either. My mom got a knifty massaging cushion. I looked over plenty of patterns for apparel and stuffed animals. However, I did get sucked in on one quilting technique.

English paper piecing allows you to make beautiful images, like these Kansas City icons. It’s like color-by-number but with fabric. It uses up all kind of weird scraps, if you’d like. Naturally I was interested as soon as I saw it.

I did end up with one of the Kansas City icon patterns and these skull-shaped pieces I’m hoping to use for a project for Mom. I’m very eager to get started!

I believe that is foundation paper piecing. I was going to take the class for it but ended up doing legit kits block of the month and am 3 months in!
